SPT Reflective Surface 3: I'm a ham

This is me at the NBC studios in NYC last year. I took the tour with my parents. On the set of the "Today" show, they asked if anyone wanted to volunteer. I am usually too shy to get up in front of a group of people but nobody was volunteering and the really cute guy who was leading our tour group was looking panic stricken. So, I raised my hand. Here I am standing in front of a green screen, looking at a monitor of the weather. Not only did I volunteer but I hammed it up real good. More Self Portrait Tuesday

I just noticed you are a Li-Young Lee fan. I love his work and have all of his books autographed.

First off, I miss the Today Show.. someone (eh hem) has taken over the morning television programming.

You look so CUTE in braids!! I wish I could do braids in my hair - but I don't think I could pull it off like you do.

I wonder if I was still watching Today when you were on?

It's funny because I didn't know what I was volunteering for or I probably wouldn't have done it. I would have been too self conscious of my pig tails which I had to put in my hair because NY was really humid that day. Also, my grandparents on my fathers side are Swiss, so I have been called the swiss miss more than a few times. The grandparents on my mom's side are Swedish. I also used to get called Heidi a lot when I wore braids. Now my hair is too short for them.

Louis,
I would love to replace Al Roker and I wouldn't even need to have gastric bypass surgery to look okay on tv.

Reverend,
Welcome. I hope my anti christian sentiments don't turn you off because I am a huge fan of Li Young Lee and liked a lot of the things you put on your blog. I just haven't had a chance to check it out in detail. Thanks for stopping by.

Baylor,
Do we get to see your hair before and after?

No, I think it's safe to say you wouldn't need gastric bypass surgery.

Louis,
I might need a hair stylist or even two.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Louis,
You are far too cute to say such kind things. This is why all the girls proposition you on your blog. Well, it may be all the hot sex talk about Jean Schmidt too.

She is quite a hottie. Just ask her, she'll tell you.

Louis,
True, and why would anyone need to ask when it's so obvious just by looking at her? Plus, everyone is saying so. The word on the street is that Jean is a hottie. Perhaps she should replace Al Roker. I know you would love that.

I don't know what anti-christian comments you made, but hey, no worries.

And you know the Pogues? color me impressed.

Too bad you don't live here in NJ, we have a huge poetry festival here. Get to see all the biggies, Clifton, Doty, Koumyakaa.

Reverend,
I had a friend (short lived boyfriend) who liked the Pogues and Lucille Clifton. Cool no? he was also a chef, photographer, painter, and alas a bit gay. He was also a fan of the Pixies. I had forgotten about the Pogues till I saw your post. They and the Pixies are great.

As far as poetry goes Lucille Clifton is undescribably good. Mary Oliver and Li Young Lee are my all time favorites though.

And the pixies? Now I'm definately impressed. Never read Mary Oliver's work though. For some reason I have a passion for eastern european poetry and mid-eastern poetry.
