Time bandit
The three people who read this blog regularly have probably noticed that I haven't been posting very frequently over the last few months nor have I commented much on other people's posts. Lord, my job is good but it's far away from where I live and the commute is a time bandit that steals 2 hours from my day.
The problem is that living as far out of town as I do ensures I get a large apartment with air conditioning, a pool, and lots of square footage for a fraction of what it would cost for a similar place in town.
Arrhhhh. I make enough money that I could afford a posher place in town except that I have credit card bills from when I was in school (just a few years ago). It totally paid off to go to school but the timing was bad. Sept 11 occurred right around the time which means the economy took a turn for the worse. Needless to say it was hard to find a good paying job when I got out of school in 2003 because the economy was still shit. As a result, I took the first job I got and was happy to get one but it did not pay the bills.
Back to our story. I now have a great job and honestly have had a great series of jobs over the last couple of years but credit card bills pile up and I don't like to carry debt. I feel compelled to pay them off by sending large sums of money every month until they are gone. This means I must live far from the city and take the train to work to avoid parking fees. It means no cable. It means less blogging.
You know what though? It's a short term problem. I'm just asking you don't give up on me. I'm not too flaky to write. I'm just too busy most days.
Thanks to those of you who check back here once in a while. You keep me from quitting altogether amidst the long commute problems.

I won't give up on you! I knew that being busy was the reason that you aren't around as much. You gotta do what you gotta do. And I totally understand because my commuting time is about the same as yours - 2 hours roundtrip - and it's for the very same reason. I live far away because it was the only way I could afford a house. I would love to live closer but I just can't afford it. Especially now. And if I didn't have so much downtime at work, my blogging activity would be way down.
Post when you can, and don't feel bad about being busy!
Commute time? Boy, that stinks... I figured you found a new stud muffin.
Paying off debt is definitely the right call, no question. You'll feel so much freer when it's gone. You might even jump up and down like my old neighbor did when she finally got rid of her debt. But it won't be as dramatic since you don't weigh 250 lbs. (ironically, we celebrated by going out to eat).
Regarding posting... sometimes one has more time, sometimes less. Quality is more important than quantity. You have interesting thoughts and it's nice that you share them. Your poetry in particular is always impressive. I wish I could write like that.
That's so awesome that you're paying off your debt in big chunks while making sacrifices. Lots of people don't do that.
